Alistair Gow
Alistair Gow is a Scottish painter printmaker based in Glasgow. His limited edition etchings and monoprints – which are characterised by a painterly, luminescent quality - are rooted in observational drawing, and a passion for the process of printmaking.
Alistair often works from life in the landscape around his home in Glasgow. An isolated tree, advertising billboards and white arrows painted on a highway are recent recurring motifs, representing, for the artist, ‘a fascination with things that present potential’. Despite the seemingly ordinary nature of his subject matter, Alistair’s use of white space within his imagery creates illuminated pockets of light, which infuse his works with a little magic. A deep respect for the craft of printmaking is key within his practice, with the artist giving the viewer intentional visual hints into how his layered images are created.
Alistair graduated with a BA Hons from the Glasgow School of Art in 2010, which included an international exchange year in Alberta, Canada. He has worked as a collaborating printmaker at Glasgow Print Studio since 2014. Notable exhibitions include regular inclusion in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, ‘Hockney to Himid’ at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2022) and ‘Traces Remain’ at BBA Gallery, Berlin (2025). His work is held in numerous collections, and he was the winner of both the RSA Open exhibition prize and the Boodle Hatfield Printmaking Prize at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, both awarded in 2025.
Oliver Projects is proud to be presenting Alistair’s work for the first time at the 2026 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (13 – 16 November). Please contact us to register your interest.
