Bobbye Fermie

Bobbye Fermie is a contemporary artist with Dutch and Indonesian heritage, based in London. Working primarily in painting and collage, her works are characterised by solitary, female protagonists, portrayed in imaginary spaces. Rather than being direct self-portraits, her subjects are described by the artist as ‘based on my own characteristics and experiences’.

Bobbye’s practice has recently evolved to include printmaking which has allowed her to further explore the naturally graphic nature of her imagery, and her gently pared-down palette. In the artist’s newest images, a male and female pairing has been introduced, representing a progression from the social isolation suggested in previous works. In her words, these works explore ‘the tension between private, intimate spaces and those that are public or observed’.

Bobbye studied in the Netherlands and Belgium before moving to London in 2014 to attend the Royal Drawing School. She has undertaken artistic residencies in the UK and Italy, the latter resulting in her first international solo exhibition at Skitsehandlen in Denmark, in 2024. Her work has been shown at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and Christie's, London, and is currently held at several collections, including the Moritz-Heyman Collection, The Royal Collection and Soho House. Oliver Projects launched Bobbye’s first series of original prints titled ‘Tales of the Home’ in 2023. A solo exhibition was held at Wilder Gallery, London, in 2024. Bobbye lives and works in north London.

We are presenting new work by Bobbye in Man and Woman in Garden, a joint exhibition with Jake Garfield (27 March - 25 April 2026). View exhibition catalogue.
