Henry Hussey

Henry Hussey’s multi-disciplinary practice explores identity through a broad range of media including textiles, film, glass, ceramics, drawing and printmaking. Often intensely emotive and raw, Henry’s work, in his words, is ‘about taking unconscious thoughts and giving them permanence’.

The human body features prominently in Henry’s visual language in varying forms. Male and female torsos, heads, masks, and figurative vessels all represent different interpretations of self-portraiture. Through reflecting upon his own ‘different faces’, Henry is able to explore universal themes around mythology, symbolism, archetypal characters and the language of dreams in powerful imagery that often teeters between beauty and brutality.

Henry studied Textiles at Chelsea College of Art and the Royal College of Art. His work has been exhibited in London, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and New York and is held in collections worldwide. He has recently undertaken two artistic residencies in Italy at La Vallonea, Tuscany and Palazzo Monti, Milan. He is represented by Anima Mundi Gallery, St. Ives, Cornwall, who have regularly exhibited his work. We presented a selection of works on paper and sculpture by Henry in our July 2021 group exhibition Into the Light of the Present Day followed by new monoprints by the artist at the 2022 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. Henry is also the co-founder of OSHS Projects who have curated several group exhibitions of work by contemporary artists at various temporary spaces in London.
