Katherine Jones RA: Fine Ladies and Gentle Men at Gainsborough’s House

We are delighted to announce Katherine Jones’ first institutional exhibition at Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury, Suffolk. ‘Fine Ladies and Gentle Men’ (3 May - 19 October 2025) features limited edition prints and paintings, with a focus upon plant and flower forms and the embellishments that they use to attract insects.

As with many of Katherine’s works, the exhibition continues to explore the human characteristics of flowers such as the pansy - which has a face of sorts - but Gainsborough’s House itself, and it’s garden, have also inspired the artist’s newest works. Katherine will spend six months participating in an Arts Council Funded residency at the house, collaborating in the Print Workshop with artist members and the public, as well as making new works of her own including a large-scale four-piece limited edition print.

Part of the exhibition is displayed alongside two original Spitalfields silk dresses in the house’s ‘Silk Room’, echoing the artist’s interest in finery and the ways in which historical embellishments, such as ruffs, were used to symbolise status and draw attention.
