Alice Macdonald, Shell Candle Holder, 2022
Glazed earthenware, 29 x 7 x 3.5cm
Alice Macdonald is an emerging, London-based artist whose diaristic paintings are informed by a broad range of sources spanning historical literature, classic films, myths, fairytales, memories, and friends and family painted from life.
Alice has also recently started making hand-built ceramic works; the malleable qualities of this medium relate closely to her dynamic painting style. The resulting pieces are gently surreal, and have a sense of the theatrical. Alice has made shell vases previously; designed to hold flowers they also suggest a hiding place for secrets or magical pearls. Here, a candle holder is decorated with similar shells amidst painted swirling seas.
Purchased works are usually despatched within three working days.
