Amsterdam-born artist Bobbye Fermie is renowned for her dreamlike works on paper that explore introspective female figures inhabiting imaginary spaces. Inspired by memories and photographs, her work is characterised by a limited palette which creates impact and ends each image a graphic quality.
This unique oil-based monotype has been hand-printed at Artichoke Print Workshop, in Brixton. The monotype technique allows the artist to work freely and spontaneously, producing painterly images that are close in quality to watercolour paintings. In Bobbye’s words, the figures ‘are based on my own characteristics and experiences but are not a direct translation or self-portrait’.
