Bobbye Fermie, Morning Scene, 2023 (framed)
Woodcut, 31 x 38cm, edition of 30
Amsterdam-born artist Bobbye Fermie is renowned for her dreamlike works on paper that explore introspective female figures inhabiting imaginary spaces. Inspired by memories and photographs, her work is characterised by a limited palette which creates impact and lends each image a graphic quality.
In early 2023 Bobbye began to explore printmaking using two very different techniques; woodcut and monotype. This framed limited edition woodcut has been hand-printed on delicate Japanese paper by the artist in her north London studio. It is one of a pair of bold prints created in a limited palette, featuring a silhouetted couple pictured at home at sunrise and sunset. The woodcut technique requires advance planning and results in impactful images. In Bobbye’s words, the figures ‘are based on my own characteristics and experiences but are not a direct translation or self-portrait’. It has been framed behind art glass in whitewashed maple.
Purchased works are usually despatched within three working days.
